Plaque of white marble with a relief above the inscription representing a single breast. Dedication to Zeus Hypsistos by Eutychia ex voto. This dedication derives from the former site of the Athenian Assembly on the Pnyx. The dedicant must have suffered from a disease or injury affecting the breast. A connection with breast-feeding, or fertility in general is also plausible. |
