Received honours – Priestess – thoinarmostria – agorachos – Hestia of the polis – mother of piety – mother of demos – mother of boule

Statue base decorated with cymatia on top and bottom, bearing a honourific inscription, set up presumably by the polis, for Claudia Damostheneia (I), a hereditary priestess of many cults, thoinarmostria and agorachos. She was honoured as ‘mother of piety, demos and boule’ and also ‘Hestia of the polis’. She was also praised for her virtue and especially for her piety to the gods and this justified the bestowal of the honourific title ‘mother of piety’. Her statue was dedicated by the polis and funded by her son, Ti. Claudius Pratolaos. The reference of the IG on the location of the inscription (olim in vico Biza, orientem versus a Slavochorio), which was adopted in RP II and Siekierka - Stebnicka – Wolicki, should be corrected to the village Riza, east of Amyclae (the old Sklavochori).
