Fragment of an architrave of blue-gray (‘Hymettian’) marble, broken into two parts. The monument contains two civic inscriptions, the present one in honour of Claudia Athenais, and one for Claudia’s brother, Tib. Claudius Attikos Herodes of Marathon, father of the famous Herodes Attikos (IG II² 3595). Claudia Athenais was honoured by the Areopagos, the boule of 600 and the demos because she made some benefactions, the nature of which are unknown to us. |
