Μarble plaque from a statue base that bears an agonistic inscription commemorating the Olympic victory of (Vettulena) Cassia, daughter of Vettulenus Laetus (21 CE). The Vettuleni were one of the most prominent families of Elis and they were active until the third c. CE. They could have been Italians, which would explain the astonishing antiquity of their attestation in the area (Zoumbaki). On Cassia, see Zoumbaki, Elis und Olympia, K 24 and B 10 for her family. |
