Base of gray (‘Hymettian’) marble, preserved on the left and right sides and at the top. Dedication of a statue to the hierophantis Claudia Philoxena, daughter of Tiberius Claudius Patron from the deme of Melite, who had covered the altar of Kore with silver. Her son, Tiberius Claudius Lysiades, son of Tiberius Claudius Patron of Melite, took care of the setting up of the statue when Claudia Teimothea was priestess of Demeter and Kore. Since Philoxena’s husband carried the same name as her father, Clinton 1974, 87, n. 7 has considered the possibility of adoption. |
